M3 Pictures: a website insight, and lecture of our history.

Hi there!

I’m Harley, one of the founders of M3 Pictures, where my role wears many hats! I am not only the resident writer but, the one who looks after our actors and collaborators, the behind-the-scenes photographer, M3 Blog writer and also amateur website engineer…

This website was built to showcase our projects that into these we have poured many hours of work, love and probably the most relatable one, sweat.

You probably have many questions such as:

Why are you both amazing?

How do you not have an Oscar yet?

Is Scotland always so rainy?

But most importantly, how did it begin?

Well let’s start with where Greta and I met. It was my second year at Junior Conservatoire at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and I was nervous as I knew that there would be new people joining us. Greta was one amongst these new people.

We were flung into the deep end when we were taught about not censoring ourselves and due to a nervous atmosphere the lecturer, BAFTA winner Daniel Cameron, told us to pair up with the nearest person to us, fate decided that me and Greta be standing beside one another.

The exercise was that one of us had to close our eyes, making sure they were fully shut, while the other led us around the room (this room being M3), we had to say whatever came to our mind regardless of what it was. Then we swapped over and the experience was the same. This established a silent trust between us that would soon develop into a magic friendship that would lead to M3 Pictures.

After a while, we were exploring improvisation and I had wrote a few prompts to which I was asked “Do you write?” The answer at the time was no, however I went home and began writing a play. To which I asked Greta for advice and help editing. After a few weeks of me running workshops for the play, Greta approached me with an idea, which she labelled “a long-shot.” I originally wasn’t sold on the idea of writing a short film at first due to having just wrote a play, but as soon as she told me the idea. I was hooked.

After four whole months of writing and editing and writing and creating new characters and writing. We finally came to the final draft, ran a workshop to gather our cast and the rest, well the rest is yet to be discovered. Mainly because I write this after our casting workshop and we haven’t yet decided a date for shooting.

Why do I have so much faith in this?

Because it was Greta approaching me with this idea, I finally found the space to create and develop skills under the caring eye of a close friend and advisor.

M3 Pictures will one day take the world by storm, it just doesn’t know it yet.
